A stainless steel automatic centre seconds alarm wristwatch with date and two-tone dial
The Memomatic ref.166.072 was introduced by Omega in 1969. With a massive stainless steel case, measuring 40mm in width (excluding the crown), the case is detailed with a combination of satin and polished finishes. The model uses the highly complex Omega calibre 980 movement. Unusually the movement has a single barrel that controls the power for both the time and alarm functions. This means that the automatic rotor will provide all the power required for the watch to operate. The majority of vintage alarm watches incorporated a separate manually wound barrel for the alarm. Another unusual feature are the twin central discs which allow the alarm time to be displayed in hours and minutes, rather than via a single pointer as is more commonly found in alarm watches by other watchmakers. The pusher by 2 o’clock controls the alarm settings and a recessed pusher at 3 o’clock provides quick date adjustment.
Omega cal.980 automatic movement (Lemania ebauche), 19 jewels, glucydur balance, 21,600 BPH, Incabloc shock absorber, automatic rotor with ball bearings, winding in both directions, alarm hammer sounding against a spring; two-tone blue and silver matte chapter ring, applied white baton numerals with luminescent tips, luminescent hands (please note that luminescence will have naturally dulled with age), twin inner matte grey revolving discs for hour and minute alarm indication; massive cushion-tonneau case with satin finished bezel and case sides, polished edges, screw-down case back with ‘Seamaster’ emblem, Omega signed crystal, Omega crown at 4 o’clock, pusher by 2 o’clock for alarm setting, recessed pusher at 3 o’clock for date adjustment; case, dial, movement, crown and crystal signed.
